life is a highway.

Life is a highway and so it sometimes includes truck fires. How we handle these truck fires can make all the difference…

I’ve been in a better place this week. Taking time for myself and reading a ton is helping restore my mental balance, mostly. For the first time in a long time though, my kids are “sick”. Last week, husband had some kind of sinus cooties- negative for COVID and strep, just cooties. Domino effect means that now my children have said cooties and therefore, vis a vie, concordantly they cannot attend school. So. Much. Fun.

Today while having my monthly meeting with my manager, my youngest came in to advise me that his brother has a new best friend. The best friend is a house fly. Little wanted a turn with the new BFF but was not granted this by his brother, the fly whisperer and so I had to hear about it and so did my boss. Thankfully, my boss is a great sport and found this funny and didn’t fire me…

After this meeting I had to run an errand so we packed all the kids in the car for a ride. On our return trip, there was a truck fire which resulted in our van being parked on the highway for over 45 minutes (2 miles from our exit by the way). The fighting began. The was yelling, elbowing, fists, annoyance, guttural demon sounds- the works. The tiniest bladder in the car couldn’t wait any longer so I let him unbuckle and pee into an old fast food cup I dug out of the trash pile on the floor. This is why I don’t clean my car people, what would I have done if I didn’t drive a rolling dumpster with options for my kid to pee in?

I coped in the only way that only I know how to cope. I cranked up Adele on the radio and belted out “WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL, BUT WE HAD THESE KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDS. NOW I’M HOLDING PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!”

The children were NOT amused.

I have to work late now due to my urine filled adventure, but we survived. Sid took the kids to the pond to let me get some work done and apparently there are snakes and snapping turtles a plenty- maybe it’s the end of days?

Looking forward to an extra long weekend, hoping for less fighting and less urine over the next few days. Who knows around here…
